As the January blues set in and the dark and gloomy mornings look here to stay, you’d be forgiven for considering leaving the bike at home and trudging to the nearest bus stop to join the crowd of sullen, soggy commuters.
If this alternative doesn’t sound too appealing, it might be time to make your escape from the dull grey of winter with our waterproof Moonrider Gilet. We know you don’t want cycle the streets looking like a site foreman, and so with this slick, metallic design you can start your day in style, safe in the knowledge you have all your winter cycling needs right at your fingertips.
The latest tech
Our waterproof gilet uses 3M® reflective technology to keep you highly visible at all times, allowing you to focus on your ride and stay safe on even the busiest city commute. 3M® is made up of millions of tiny glass spheres (20 – 70 microns per sphere), that reflect light and focus it back towards the original light source. These glass particles are hollow and are therefore extremely lightweight.
The obvious safety advantage of 3M® is that the rider can be seen better and more quickly thanks to the retro-reflective effect. At night, you are more visible in this type of reflective white garment than in a yellow high visibility jacket, because fluorescence is a daytime only phenomenon - it needs UV from the sun to make it ‘glow’. The introduction of this material into technical clothing is a paradigm shift for 3M®. Huez* is at the forefront of this change and is proud to be one of the first companies to apply this technology into stretch fabrics.
The Moonrider’s four-way stretch allows for a comfortable, tailored fit, rather than that all too familiar feeling of wearing a baggy garment that doesn’t move with you as you ride. It features a silicone gripper at its base to keep your gilet from riding up, and an extended tail to keep spray from ruining your work clothes. Additionally, this fabric is practically impenetrable to bad weather, so you’ll stay dry as a bone even when it’s raining cats and dogs.
Blending practicality with style
Oh, and did we mention the Quickburst Zip? Unique to Huez* this dynamic feature is perfect for those colder days when your hands are too numb to use the zipper or tangled in gloves. By simply pulling at the centre tabs the garment can be removed in less than 10 seconds when you need to cool down or remove the jacket in an instant, putting the use of a regular zip to shame. Once off, the garment is stored in its own integrated reflective pouch which doubles up as a zip-able valuables pocket whilst being worn.
Finally, here at Huez* we take pride in finishing our products with sartorial detail. Our zig zag stitching represents the twenty-one switchbacks of L’Alpe d’Huez, the iconic, mythical hairpin bends that have featured as one of the Tour de France’s most gruelling challenges since way back in 1952.
